After almost five years of work and consultation with Livin Housing and the Shildon community, we’re finally seeing this exciting regeneration scheme come to life. Mears are carrying out the extensive retrofit project which will refresh the 1960s houses and breathe new life into the entire area.
The works include applying insulating render and replacing windows with triple glazing to improve thermal efficiency. Photovoltaic panels will help to reduce fuel bills for residents. Internal remodelling will update living areas for modern day families.
The proposals will improve the public realm, eliminating areas of no-man’s land by knitting courts together to form private back gardens. Some dwellings are reversed to ‘normalise’ relationships with the public realm and create private drives and front gardens.
